There is a unique magic to South Florida’s coastline during the golden hour. The soft warm light off the ocean, the gentle morning haze, and the deep blue expanse offer an ideal canvas for fine-art portraiture.

In Jordon’s coastal session at Key Biscayne, we set out to capture the quiet strength of motherhood. We timed the session to begin exactly twenty minutes before sunrise, letting us make the most of the civil twilight—when the sky turns a deep indigo-lavender and the water becomes a mirrored surface.

As the sun broke over the horizon, the warm terracotta tones completely transformed the beach. Using a wide-aperture portrait lens, we focused on soft reflections in the tide pools, natural movement in the wind, and candid expressions.

Here are three key lessons from this shoot for your next coastal session:
1. **Timing is absolute**: Arriving early allows you to capture the pre-sunrise colors, which are often even more magical than the sunrise itself.
2. **Move with the wind**: Instead of fighting the ocean breeze, let it add organic movement to styling and hair.
3. **Use tide reflections**: Wet sand acts as a natural reflector, bouncing soft ambient light back up to fill shadows.
